Geocomply reports significant increase in betting activity for NFL 2022 Kickoff
Geolocation volumes for betting were up by 77 per cent to 22.6m from 12.7m on the opening Thursday in 2021.
US.- After the NFL 2022 kicked off on September 8, the geolocation data firm GeoComply has provided figures showing a significant increase in betting activity for the start of the season. The company has indicated that the season looks set to be the biggest yet for the regulated US sports betting market.
The geolocation volumes for betting hit 22.6m, up 77 per cent from 12.7m on the opening Thursday in 2021. In New Jersey, volumes rose by 550 per cent compared to the first NFL season post-PASPA, reaching 3m. The state was one of the first US markets to embrace sports betting and saw geolocation volumes of 460,000 in 2018.
In New York, bettors had their first chance to bet on an NFL kickoff, which resulted in geolocation volume of 3.7m. In the Buffalo metropolitan area, sports betting figures rocketed from 86,400 on September 1 to 267,600 on September 8.
The American Gaming Association (AGA) estimates that 46.6 million people in the US will bet on the 2022 NFL season this year, up three per cent year-over-year. Today, more than half (132 million) of American adults can legally wager in their home state, 18 million more than this time last year.
In February, GeoComply reported that 80.1m betting transactions took place over the Super Bowl weekend in the US. That was an increase of 226 per cent compared to 2021 after a year that’s seen a huge expansion in legal online sports betting in the US.
16,000 transactions from Missouri blocked on first day of sports betting in Kansas
The geolocation data firm GeoComply revealed that it blocked 16,000 cross-border transactions from Missouri on the first day of legal sports betting in Kansas. Sports betting launched in Kansas on September 1.
GeoComply said that around 60 per cent of the blocked transactions came from the Missourian part of Kansas City, showing great interest in sports betting among Missouri residents. Missouri has yet to legalise sports betting, and it’s uncertain if or when it will despite neighbouring states having done so.
