Data shows New Yorkers are crossing the state line to use the regulated market after Connecticut launched online casinos and sports betting.

US.- Connecticut has launched online casinos and sports betting, and data released by GeoComply shows that New Yorkers are crossing the state line to make use of it. Connecticut now offers New Yorkers an alternative to the trip to New Jersey.

According to the provider´s study, more than 1.2m transactions have been made since Connecticut’s soft launch, most of them after the full launch on October 19. The state ranks ninth in terms of overall online sports betting and casino traffic. Despite a population of 3.5m, it has surpassed Colorado, which has a population of 5.7m.

Chad Kornett, VP global government relations of GeoComply, said: “We’ve learned from the New Jersey experience that New Yorkers are clearly motivated to travel locally to bet on sites where proper consumer protections have been put in place that safeguard the integrity of their wager.

“Connecticut looks to be quickly following a similar pattern: Easily accessed from the New York City area, GeoComply’s data shows 38% of Connecticut’s wagering activity has originated from the southwestern corner of the state along the I-95 corridor.”
