Coalition rises against Connecticut casino
A group opposed to the upcoming East Windsor casino in Connecticut held a meeting this week.
US.- After MMCT Venture announced that they reached a decision regarding the location of an upcoming third casino in Connecticut, a coalition expressed its opposition because they think a gambling venue would change how the town works.
According to the Hartford Courant, Palmer resident Charlotte Burns said: “We live in a very quiet little town and they wanted to build this enormous monstrosity of a casino. It would have changed the whole town.” The local resident believes that a new casino could also impact negatively in society because it could bring alcohol and gambling addiction. Furthermore, she believes that the casino would exploit the poor without improving the economy of the city.
Mohegan Tribal Gaming Authority and the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation, the tribes that formed the joint venture, said that the US$250 million casino is set to be built near the border with Massachusetts to compete with the US$950 million MGM Resorts international project that will open its doors in the summer of 2018.
