Baton Rouge riverboats post revenue decline

The riverboat casinos in Baton Rouge continued March’s downward trend and posted a revenue decline.

US.- Baton Rouge’s riverboat casinos once again posted a revenue decline in April. The financial results indicate that they suffered a 12% setback when compared to the same month the previous year. The market hasn’t experienced year-to-year increases in casino revenue since August 2017.

The negative results in April marked the 20th consecutive month of year-over-year losses for the local casino market in Baton Rouge. According to the latest report from the Louisiana Gaming Control Board, L’Auberge Baton Rouge, Hollywood Casino and the Belle of Baton Rouge managed to bring in US$20.4 million in April, down from the US$23.2 million registered in April 2018.

The biggest fall in revenue is attributable to Belle of Baton Rouge, which experienced a fall in winnings of 48% to US$2.5 million, compared to 2018’s US$4.7 million. Moreover, revenues were also down 24% since March. Furthermore, Hollywood Casino brought in US$4.7 million, or an 18% fall from March and a 13% decline from April 2018.

On the other hand, L’Auberge was the only facility that registered a year-over-year gain in April. The casino collected US$13.2 million in April, up 1.9% from its numbers in the same month in 2018. Nevertheless, revenues were still down by 9.5% from March.

Casino winnings in Baton Rouge decreased 13.8% year-over-year in March and continued a losing streak. The three riverboats decreased winnings once again and registered US$23.6 million in March.

The regulator’s numbers also indicate that statewide, riverboat casinos collected US$146.5 million in April, which represents a 19% decrease from March and a 6.7% year-over-year fall.
