Thailand.- Soldiers have arrested 53 people arrested for running an online gaming operation.

Those arrested were 40 Chinese nationals, 12 Burmese and one Filipino. They are accused of operating a call centre for an illegal online gambling network in a resort in the Muang District.

During the raid, officers seized computers, 300 phones and other assets related to gambling operations.

Investigations found the group had booked out the whole resort and hired locals as bodyguards. Like in other recent raids, those arrested are also accused of breaching Covid-19 countermeasures.

According to Bangkok Post, all those arrested were handed over to the police for legal proceedings and were checked for Covid-19 by medical staff.

A few days ago, police raided an alleged gambling operation taking place at a house in Chawang District.

Police arrested six people and seized various gambling cards and cash. Officers reported that those arrested tried to run away through a back door during the raid but were caught and arrested.

The group has been charged with colluding in gambling and illegal gathering during a pandemic.
