The integrated resort operator has joined the GSTC membership programme.

Macau.- SJM Resorts has become the first Macau-based organisation to join the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC), and international body that manages sustainability standards for the travel and tourism industry.

The company said the move builds on a series of sustainability initiatives already implemented, incluiding Grand Lisboa Palace Resort Macau becaming the first resort in Macau to obtain ISO 20121:2024 certification for its Event Sustainability Management System back in 2024. It said GSTC membership would aid its efforts to continue implementing sustainability measures throughout its portfolio, including energy-efficiency programmes, water conservation initiatives and efforts to reduce plastic consumption.

Daisy Ho, chairman and executive director of SJM Holdings and managing director of SJM Resorts, said: “SJM has been deeply rooted in Macau for over 60 years, and our commitment to a greener future remains steadfast. Becoming the first GSTC member in Macau marks a natural progression of our journey. We will continue to advance sustainability and support Macau’s development as a leading destination for responsible tourism.”

GSTC chief executive officer Randy Durband said: “GSTC warmly welcomes SJM Resorts as a GSTC member organisation. We thank them for joining our mission to advance more responsible, inclusive, and sustainable tourism through their diverse business portfolio across hospitality, MICE, and Attraction sectors.”
