PAGCOR has assisted students and teachers from Pateros and Occidental Mindoro, releasing PHP8.5m grants to buy modern learning tools and new laboratory equipment.

The Philippines.- The Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp (PAGCOR) has released PHP8.5m to assist students and teachers from Pateros and Occidental Mindoro. Pateros Mayor Miguel Ponce III received a cheque for PHP6m while OMSC director for external affairs and internationalisation Veronica Ferrer received PHP2.5m from the PAGCOR Board.

PAGCOR chair Andrea Domingo said: “With these grants, we hope that more students from public learning institutions will have a better fighting chance in life as we provide them with the tools needed in their education and personal advancement.

“We likewise hope that more teaching personnel will have better teaching aids that will improve the students’ learning experience.”

The city of Pateros hopes to purchase nearly 700 mobile tablets for underprivileged high school students at Simplicio Manalo and Pateros National High School. Meanwhile, the Occidental Mindoro State College will use the money to repair and replace damaged laboratory equipment.

Despite a weak net income for the year 2021, the regulator continues funding multi-purpose evacuation centres (MPECs) and a week ago it inaugurated a centre located in Barangay Sta. Catalina.
