Authorities from PAGCOR were present at the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of a PHP50m multi-purpose evacuation centre in Lubao, Pampanga.

The Philippines.- Despite a weak net income for the year 2021, the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp (PAGCOR) continues funding multi-purpose evacuation centres (MPECs). The regulator has now inaugurated a centre located in Barangay Sta. Catalina.

PAGCOR Chairman and CEO Andrea Domingo led the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of the facility, which will benefit residents of coastal villages. The building will complement the 24-hectare government property that currently houses regional and provincial evacuation sites, a Covid-19 quarantine facility and a municipal material recycling facility.

In her speech, Domingo indicated that Pampanga has been one of her priorities. PAGCOR is also financing the construction of Pampanga’s PHP500m OFW hospital, for which the regulator will also provide PHP200m worth of equipment.

PAGCOR has reported that net income plunged nearly 87 per cent from PHP1.55m (US$307.4m) to PHP203.6m (US$4.0m) in 2021. Despite this, the regulator decided to “continue supporting the government in helping Filipinos in need.”

A week ago, the regulator inaugurated two centres located in the city of Legazpi in Albay and the town of Sagñay in Camarines Sur.
