Macau GGR reaches highest monthly total since Covid-19 pandemic
Gross gaming revenue amounted to MOP22.16bn (US$2.76bn) in August.
Macau.- The Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau (DICJ) has reported that Macau’s gross gaming revenue (GGR) was MOP22.16bn (US$2.76bn) in August. That’s an increase of 12.2 per cent in year-on-year terms and slightly higher than July’s GGR of MOP22.13bn (US$2.73bn). That makes it the best monthly performance since January 2020, just before the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Cumulatively, Macau’s GGR for the first eight months of 2025 was MOP163.05bn (US$19.11bn), up 7.2 per cent year-on-year. The figure was 11.7 per cent below pre-pandemic levels (MOP198.22bn / US$24.75bn).
In July, the Legislative Assembly passed the 2025 fiscal budget amendment bill, which forecasts annual gaming tax revenue of MOP79.8bn (US$9.87bn), 5 per cent lower than previously expected. The government cut its GGR estimate from MOP240bn ($29.69bn) to MOP228bn ($28.2bn). At the time of the revised forecast, Ho In Mui, deputy director of the Financial Services Bureau, cited global economic conditions and changes in tourist consumption patterns as factors.
