Six Jeju casino workers referred to prosecutors over alleged blackjack rigging
The casino employees are accused of using marked cards to manipulate blackjack games involving Chinese tourists.
South Korea.- Six employees of a hotel casino on South Korea’s Jeju Island have been referred to prosecutors over allegations that they manipulated blackjack games to defraud customers. According to investigators, the group, which includes dealers, used marked cards during blackjack games involving three Chinese tourists on June 7 and 8. The alleged fraud reportedly generated approximately KRW 100m.
The Jeju Provincial Police Agency said the six workers at the venue, identified as Casino A, face fraud charges. The company operating the casino was also referred to prosecutors under a joint penalty provision for allegedly failing to properly supervise its employees.
The case came to light after authorities detected unusual blackjack revenue through the casino’s monitoring system. An on-site inspection subsequently uncovered cards suspected of being altered or forged, as well as CCTV footage indicating possible manipulation of the games. Jeju Province requested a police investigation based on the findings. The provincial government said it plans to impose administrative sanctions on the casino after receiving the results of the investigation.
