Macau collects US$8.19bn in gaming tax through August

Gaming taxes accounted for 86.4 per cent of revenue in the first eight months of 2026.

Macau.- Gaming tax collections in Macau exceeded MOP66.17bn (US$8.19bn) in the first eight months of 2026, up 6.9 per cent year on year, according to the latest figures from the city’s Financial Services Bureau (DSF). Gaming remained the government’s main source of current revenue during the period, contributing about 86.4 per cent of the total MOP76.61bn (US$9.48bn) collected.

Macau’s casinos generated MOP21.89bn (US$2.71bn) in gross gaming revenue (GGR), an 8.1 per cent increase from July but a 1.2 per cent decline year on year. During the month, casinos paid nearly MOP7.83bn (US$970m) in gaming tax, up 9.5 per cent from July.

Macau imposes a 35 per cent special gaming tax on casino GGR, with additional levies taking the effective tax rate to 40 per cent. The territory’s six casino concessionaires operate under 10-year contracts that began on January 1, 2023 and run through the end of 2032.

The government has budgeted for MOP92.53bn (US$11.45bn) in gaming tax revenue for 2026. The MOP66.17bn (US$8.19bn) collected through August means 71.5 per cent of the annual target has already been reached, leaving about MOP26.36bn (US$3.26bn) for the remaining four months.
