Macau’s GGR for the third week of October reached average daily revenue of MOP157m (US$19.6m), up 98 per cent when compared to MOP79m in the previous week.

Macau.- Sanford C. Bernstein Ltd has reported that Macau’s gross gaming revenue (GGR) between October 18 and 24 was up 98 per cent when compared to the previous week. The city saw an average daily revenue of MOP157m (US$19.6m), up from the MOP79m, mainly due to an easing of restrictions.

Macau has registered a rebound in visitor arrivals after authorities in Zhuhai eased restrictions for people who have travelled from Macau, no longer requiring a 14-day quarantine. During the first weeks of October, Macau registered new local cases of Covid-19, which had a deep impact on the highly anticipated October Golden Week. 

Data from the Public Security Police show that daily average visitors to Macau during the holiday period was down 93.7 per cent compared with last year. Analysts at Sanford C. Bernstein Ltd expect Macau’s GGR for October will be down 80 per cent when compared to 2019 levels, previous to the Covid-19 pandemic.

For the first 24 days of the month, Macau’s GGR was down 86 per cent when compared to pre-pandemic levels, to MOP2.9bn (US$363m). The figure was down 38 per cent when compared to September levels, when the city saw average daily revenue of MOP243m (US$30.3m).
