Japan: 24 police officers investigated for gambling on card games

Officers were allegedly found gambling on card games in a police training academy dormitory.

Japan.- Some 24 police officers have been handed over to prosecutors for allegedly playing card games at a police training academy. According to The Mainichi, those being investigated are aged between 20 and 23 and were sent to the Prosecutor’s Office for suspected illegal gambling. 

After completing basic training at a county police academy, those being investigated were assigned to their first police station to take supplementary courses. They are accused of placing multiple wagers between JPY100 (US$0.80) and JPY50,000 (US$410) while playing card games such as blackjack and the Japanese game Daifugo in September 2021.
