IPL should resume play ahead of T20 World Cup
India leg spinner, Yuzvendra Chahal, has said players need time to return to form before any other tournaments are played.
India.- India leg spinner, Yuzvendra Chahal, has said the Indian Premier League (IPL) should resume before any other series or tournament, including the T20 World Cup.
Chaha said this would give players enough time to return to form having been sidelined for several months due to the Covid-19 outbreak.
“It would be the best option to resume with IPL as it will be played for over two months. So everyone will get time to prepare themselves, Chahal said in an interview with Sports Tak.
“In my opinion, it would be better to resume cricket with IPL than with any series,” he added.
Despite the Coronavirus pandemic leading to the cancellation of sports events around the world, the fate of the T20 World Cup has yet to be decided.
The T20 World Cup is scheduled to take place in Australia in October but the International Cricket Council (ICC) is discussing contingency plans for the event amid the on-going crisis.
In the recent ICC chief executives’ committee, no final decision was taken on T20 World Cup dates but it’s becoming increasingly clear that the tournament may be moved to Feb-March 2021.
In the meantime, the Board of Control of Cricket in India (BCCI) has mandated that no further cricket matches will take place in the country until the Coronavirus crisis is over,
