Goa renews casino licences
The six offshore operators on the Mandovi river have also obtained a waiver on the payment of several taxes.
India.- Despite strong opposition from the Council, the Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) has renewed the trade licences of the six offshore casino operators currently located on the Mandovi river.
This location is provisional and the government is still working on finding a definitive place for the offshore casinos.
Mayor Surendra Furtado argued that the casinos had been allowed to resume operations as of November 1, and that the CCP had received requests from associated businesses, such as hotel owners and taxi operators, to renew the licences.
Casino operators also obtained a temporary waiver on payments of several taxes due to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic.
The licences were due to be renewed from March. The CCP will earn Rs5.2 million (US$69,655) from the renewal.
