Former Wynn Macau executive sentenced to jail for college-admission bribery
Judge Nathaniel Gorton of the US District Court has sentenced Gamal Aziz to one year and a day in federal prison for involvement in bribery.
Macau.- Gamal Aziz, former Wynn Macau Ltd president, has been sentenced to a year and a day in prison in connection with a US investigation into allegations of college admissions bribery. In 2019, Aziz was accused of paying US$300,000 in bribes to get his daughter into the University of Southern California.
He denied wrongdoing but was convicted last October of one count of conspiracy to commit federal programmes bribery and one count of conspiracy to commit mail fraud and wire fraud. The story became known as the “Varsity Blues” college admissions scandal.
US District Judge Nathaniel Gorton, sitting in Boston, Massachusetts, also ordered Aziz to pay a $250,000 fine and serve 400 hours of community service. Aziz’s lawyer Brian Kelly said outside court his client would appeal the decision.
