ACMA releases January – March report on interactive gambling actions

The regulator carried out 22 investigations, issued 12 formal warnings and blocked 61 websites.

Australia.- The Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) has released a report on its actions concerning interactive gambling from January to March. The regulator conducted 350 inquiries, upholding 283 (81 per cent).

It received 116 complaints and 32 enquiries in January, 85 complaints and 17 enquiries in February and 82 and 18 in March.

The ACMA completed 22 investigations that involved 25 gambling sites. It found one or more breaches of the Interactive Gambling Act (IGA) in 17 investigations. There were 33 findings of breaches: 20 for providing a prohibited interactive gambling service to Australian customers, 12 for providing an unlicensed regulated interactive gambling service to Australian customers and 1 for advertising a prohibited and/or unlicensed regulated interactive gambling service in Australia.

  • Dama N.V. for providing a prohibited and unlicensed regulated interactive gambling service (Woo Casino)
  • Hollycorn N.V. for providing a prohibited interactive gambling service (Billy Billion)
  • Bamboo Media for providing a prohibited and unlicensed regulated interactive gambling service (Ignition Casino)
  • Hollycorn N.V. for providing an unlicensed regulated interactive gambling service (Lets Lucky)
  • Jurimae Ltd for providing a prohibited interactive gambling service (Megabet Prize)
  • Dama N.V. for providing a prohibited interactive gambling service (Spirit Casino)
  • Anden Online N.V for providing a prohibited interactive gambling service (Velvet Spin)

The regulator also reported 61 URLs to accredited family-friendly filter providers and blocked all of them. Most offered casino-style games such as blackjack, roulette, poker, and slots. Some also provided betting services without an Australian licence.
