US.- Arizona’s retail and online sportsbooks accepted $361m in wagers in August, an increase from $288.2m in July, according to the Arizona Department of Gaming (ADG). Revenue from Arizona sports betting was $36.3m, with a hold percentage of 10 per cent, an increase from July’s 7.9 per cent win rate.

After subtracting free bets and promotions, sports betting operators saw $27.7m in adjusted revenue, paying $2.76m in taxes, based upon the state’s 8 per cent tax rate on retail and 10 per cent for mobile wagering.

Sports betting in Arizona was legalised in April 2021 and began in September 2021. August was the third-highest month so far in terms of tax revenue, behind $4.1m in May and $3.2m in November 2021.

ADG Director Ted Vogt said: “I am excited to see such strong wagering figures for August, which is the final monthly report for Arizona’s first year of legal sports betting.”

New retail sportsbooks in Arizona

The Fort McDowell Yavapai Nation’s We-Ko-Pa Casino resort in Arizona has launched a retail sportsbook with Betfred Sports. The new sportsbook features a Planar 4K direct view LED video wall that can display up to 12 live games, a cashier stand with four wagering terminals and strategically-located betting kiosks.

BetMGM has also launched a new location. The firm opened its retail sportsbook at State Farm Stadium, home of the Arizona Cardinals. The first sportsbook in a National Football League (NFL) stadium is located on The Great Lawn and operates on both event and non-event days.
