Tanzania’s betPawa renews Basketball Dar es Salaam League sponsorship worth US$224,000
betPawa extends its Basketball Dar es Salaam League sponsorship through its Locker Room Bonus programme, rewarding players and technical staff after every league victory during the 2026 season.
Tanzania.- betPawa has renewed its sponsorship of the Basketball Dar es Salaam League (BDL) in Tanzania, with players set to benefit from an estimated TSh588.9m (US$224,000) through the company’s Locker Room Bonus (LRB) programme during the 2026 season.
The one-year sponsorship extension was announced during a recent signing ceremony in Dar es Salaam and continues the betting operator’s LRB initiative, which rewards winning teams immediately after every league victory.
Under the programme, each of the 12 registered players in a winning team will receive an instant TSh88,750 (US$34) after every win, while four technical officials, including two coaches, will also receive bonuses. The incentive is designed to reward on-court success while encouraging greater competitiveness throughout the league.
betPawa regional manager for Southern and Eastern Africa, Bwalya Noah, said the programme rewards winning performances. “At betPawa, we believe that success on the court should create value for the people who make it happen. That belief gave birth to the Locker Room Bonus. When a team wins, the players and technical staff who earned that victory should receive an immediate reward,” said Noah, according to the Citizen.
Noah added the initiative recognises players’ efforts, rewards excellence and ensures “success on the court translates into tangible financial benefits.”
According to Noah, betPawa’s Locker Room Bonus programme has grown into one of Africa’s leading sports development initiatives, benefiting thousands of athletes in Ghana, Uganda, Nigeria and Cameroon, while hundreds of Tanzanian basketball players have already received bonuses through the initiative. Cameroon became the programme’s first Francophone African market when betPawa launched the LRB there in June
BDL president Shendu Hamis welcomed the renewal of the partnership, describing it as a major boost for the league and its players. “We are delighted to renew our partnership with betPawa because this sponsorship continues to bring real value to our league. It motivates players to give their best in every match and increases competitiveness throughout the season,” said Hamis.
Hamis said the sponsorship had also helped improve professionalism among clubs and strengthen the overall standard of competition.
betPawa East Africa Marketing coordinator Nassoro Mungaya said the operator would continue working with the BDL and the Tanzania Basketball Federation (TBF) to strengthen the sport’s administrative systems, adding that betPawa aimed to support the long-term development of Tanzanian basketball by rewarding excellence and creating more opportunities for players.
