Mpumalanga Economic Regulator launches MER Connect online licensing platform
According to MER, the portal automates several processes that were previously handled manually while offering a more integrated digital service for existing and prospective licence holders.
South Africa.- The Mpumalanga Economic Regulator (MER) has launched MER Connect, a new online licensing, compliance and regulatory services portal aimed at improving service delivery for South Africa’s gambling and liquor industries.
The regulator announced the launch on Wednesday, July 15, describing the platform as part of its digital transformation programme to streamline regulatory processes and improve operational efficiency.
According to MER, the portal automates several processes that were previously handled manually while offering a more integrated digital service for existing and prospective licence holders.
The platform also connects with external stakeholders, including local municipalities and the South African Police Service (SAPS), to support faster processing of gambling and liquor licence applications.
MER said the system underwent extensive testing before its launch, including a pilot programme involving a selected group of licensees.
Following the successful completion of the pilot phase, the regulator has begun rolling out MER Connect to all current and prospective licence holders across the gambling and liquor sectors.
