Angola ISJ intensifies anti-illegal gambling drive as operator hands over unauthorised gaming machine
The ISJ educated traders and consumers on the risks and legal consequences of illegal gambling while registering the voluntary handover of an unauthorised gaming machine during an awareness drive in Kilamba Kiaxi Municipality.
Angola.- Angola’s Institute of Games Supervision (ISJ) has intensified a public awareness campaign to educate traders and consumers about the risks of illegal gambling, with the initiative also resulting in the voluntary handover of an unauthorised gaming machine.
The ISJ, in coordination with the Municipal Administration of Kilamba Kiaxi, carried out the awareness initiative on July 10 at the Post Markets, Kamba Dya Kizua, and Imbondeiro Market in Kilamba Kiaxi Municipality.
The ISJ said: “The ISJ team, led by the Deputy Director-General, Cláudio Paulo, enlightened citizens about the risks associated with the illegal practice and exploration of gaming activity, as well as the respective legal implications and responsibilities.”
During the campaign, the ISJ also registered and accompanied the voluntary handover of an unauthorised gaming machine, commonly known as a “nickel hunter”, by an operator at Imbondeiro Market in the Urban District of Palanca.

According to the regulator, the initiative forms part of efforts to strengthen oversight of Angola’s gaming sector, ensure confidence in the sector, protect vulnerable members of society, safeguard public health and promote responsible gambling.
The ISJ added: “ISJ reaffirms its commitment to intensify education, prevention, and monitoring actions across the country, promoting a culture of respect for legality and encouraging citizens’ active participation in the fight against illegal gambling.”
The awareness campaign follows a series of anti-illegal gambling initiatives by the ISJ, including the recent destruction of 182 unauthorised gaming machines seized during enforcement operations in Cabinda
