South Africa hosts continent’s gaming powerhouse event with rAge 2025

Innovative tech and esports excitement come together to showcase the very best of the country’s gaming culture.

South Africa.- South Africa’s biggest gaming, tech and pop culture event is back. The Really Awesome Gaming Expo (rAge) promises a weekend full of esports tournaments, new technology, hands-on activities and the energy that makes African gaming special.

rAge will take place from December 5 to 7 at the Johannesburg Expo Centre, a venue in the heart of the city’s creative hub that reflects the bold spirit and strong gaming culture of South Africa.

Blending cutting-edge innovation with gamers from every background, the organisers are gearing up to make the 2025 edition even bigger and better than last year’s breakthrough event at the same venue.

“NASREC has given us the space to expand without feeling overcrowded, and now that we’ve got one show under our belt, we’re ready to level up in 2025,” said Michael James, Project Director of rAge Expo, according to a press release.

He said that rAge is consistently pushing boundaries with “groundbreaking technology and captivating exhibits”.

Last year’s tournaments and tech paved the way

Packed halls and electric energy made last year’s rAge an unforgettable celebration of gaming and community.

Top players in the gaming and esports space are back on board. Mettlestate, a leading name in South African esports, partners with Monster Energy, a well-known global brand in gaming and extreme sports.

Marketing Lead at Monster Energy, Jeann Steyn, said one of the highlights of the 2024 event was Monster Energy’s Call of Duty tournament, which thrilled the crowds.

“Seeing all the gamers and cosplayers engage with our brand in a unique way is always amazing. It’s an expo that’s truly for the love of gaming and the culture. rAge keeps moving from strength to strength every year.”

Mettlestate delivered intense esports action, with Barry Louzada, Managing Director of Mettlestate, saying: “rAge has always been an institution in the world of gaming in South Africa.”

SAGES Africa, a top esports group, used its Mzansi Esports Champions 2024 tournament to highlight female gamers and promote diversity and inclusion. At the same time, Afro Geek, a platform celebrating African creativity and tech culture, made a powerful debut with its Afro Geek Playroom.

But the energy didn’t stop there. RGB Gaming rallied over 30 schools for competitive tournaments and hosted South Africa’s first-ever HP Gaming Garage hackathon. MSI showcased the latest in gaming hardware, while Nexus Hub transformed the floor into an interactive playground.

Riding the wave of 2024’s success and backed by a passionate community, rAge 2025 is set to once again crown South Africa as the beating heart of African gaming.
