Explosive African Gaming Championship powers up SA
Premier casino becomes the ultimate battleground as African esports talent takes the spotlight in gaming extravaganza.
South Africa.- South Africa’s esports scene has officially erupted as the African Gaming Championship (AGC) gets underway at GrandWest Casino, uniting the continent’s top gaming talent for a high-stakes showdown.
Powered by the African Cyber Gaming League (ACGL) with support from key industry partners, the event launched on July 10 and will run through to July 13. The showdown is already electrifying the crowd in the iconic city of Cape Town.
AGC association said in a statement that this year’s edition is being hailed as a landmark moment for African esports, marking an important step forward in the continent’s gaming evolution.
“From the roar of the crowd to the click of controllers, AGC creates a stage where African esports can thrive, inspiring the next generation of players, fans and industry leaders. Whether you’re competing, spectating or supporting, AGC is where Africa’s gaming journey comes alive,” said ACG, according to Esports Central.
The tournament promises fierce competition with non-stop gaming action to keep players and fans hooked, while also serving as a powerful showcase of Africa’s rising digital culture and competitive edge.
Where Africa’s best gamers battle for glory
The AGC is divided into open divisions, university and school categories, making it both inclusive and highly competitive. From online qualifiers to the live finals, the championship sets the stage for rising stars to make their mark and seasoned players to prove their status.
“Hosted annually, AGC blends grassroots participation with elite-level competition, providing a pathway from online qualifiers to high-stakes live finals,” AGC added.
The prize pool is topping R150,000 ($8,427) with live streamed matches and international qualifiers on the schedule, including the Call of Duty Mobile South African Finals (CODM). The event is the ultimate battleground for Africa’s top esports contenders and the CODM Finals will see the two best teams go head to head live on July 13, in front of a cheering crowd and global audience.
But AGC is not only about competition. It is a celebration of African gaming culture, complete with brand activations, influencer appearances and community zones that transform the venue into a full-scale gaming festival.
As South Africa continues to lead the charge in the continent’s digital growth, AGC 2025 stands as proof of just how powerful and vibrant Africa’s gaming future has become.
