Kiwibet’s abrupt closure in the Ugandan has caught many off guard, given that the company still had active gambling/betting machines and general operations licences for 2025.

Uganda.- Online betting platform Kiwibet, operated by Synerlink Group Limited, has officially shut down its operations in Uganda. The exit was announced by the National Lotteries and Gaming Regulatory Board (NLGRB) in a public notice posted on its social media pages on June 30, 2025.

In the notice, the regulator also included contact details for players to report complaints and concerns about the closure, such as pending winnings, unresolved bets or account balances.

Kiwibet’s abrupt closure caught many off guard, given that the company still had active gambling/betting machines and general operations licences for 2025. What’s more surprising is the short notice of just 72 hours that the operator gave to the NLGRB before ceasing operations, leaving players with limited time to address pending issues.

As part of its closure process, Kiwibet has informed its customers that they have 60 days to access their accounts and withdraw any remaining funds. The deadline for withdrawals is August 30, 2025, after which, the site will no longer be accessible.

While the operator didn’t provide any explanation, industry analysts speculate that Synerlink’s exit might be linked to Uganda’s increased regulatory pressure or financial struggles.

The curtain may have closed on Kiwibet in Uganda, but the country’s bettors still have many options for online betting and gaming. The region is home to more than a dozen operators, including Betway, BetPawa and SportPesa, making it one of the most competitive betting markets in Africa.
