Ithuba Uganda introduces initiative to turn boda boda riders into lottery agents
The programme supports Ithuba’s goal of expanding access to games while supporting local individuals.
Uganda.- Ithuba Uganda, a licensed lottery operator in the country, has unveiled a corporate social investment empowerment programme to help boda boda riders earn extra income. Launched in partnership with the Boda Boda Association of Uganda, the initiative enables riders to become lottery agents, allowing them to sell tickets on commission without leaving their regular jobs.
The effort, announced on October 17, 2025, equips riders with practical ways to increase their earnings. Participants received training in digital skills and business education and were registered as lottery agents. They learned how to use Ithuba’s Lottery Xpress app, which turns smartphones into tools for selling lottery tickets. This setup lets riders handle lottery ticket sales during their daily routines.
Bob Kabenaro, Chairman of Ithuba Uganda, said: “At Ithuba, we believe true empowerment is not about giving handouts; it’s about creating opportunity. This programme gives riders the skills, tools and support to build sustainable income.”
Eric Mabuza Jnr, General Manager of Ithuba Uganda, explained that the goal is to develop business owners. He said: “The National Lottery is more than entertainment; it’s a vehicle for impact. We’re turning everyday Ugandans into partners in progress.”
The programme supports Ithuba’s goal of expanding access to games while supporting local individuals. For many boda boda operators, who form a key part of Uganda’s transport system, this opportunity could lead to steadier finances. The initiative also provides road safety gear for riders, reducing the hazards of their daily work.
