South Africa.- Betway is turning gambling revenue into tangible community impact. Residents of Matshemhlophe Village in South Africa continue to benefit from a solar-powered water system that delivers 86,000 litres of clean water daily, improving health, education and livelihoods.

Installed three years ago with support from the Betway Cares Foundation and the Innovate Africa Foundation, the system in 2026 now serves 4,000 residents through 20 taps, providing a reliable source of clean water for the village. Children attend school more consistently, families spend less time fetching water and households have more time for work, gardening and small-scale businesses.

Betway said: “A lifeline for Matshemhlophe village-clean water is just the beginning. This simple innovation continues to transform life in the village; improving health, education and economic opportunities.”

Betting drives change

The impact of the water system is already being felt across the village, improving daily life for families. Thuli Ndwandwe, a 59-year-old mother of seven, said: “Having clean water close to us has brought great relief to my family. I am truly grateful to the donor for restoring our dignity and making our everyday lives easier.”

The Matshemhlophe project demonstrates how regulated betting revenue can be harnessed for lasting social good. Beyond entertainment, operators like Betway are funding initiatives that deliver benefits across education, youth empowerment, arts development and essential infrastructure.

Matshemhlophe highlights a growing trend in South Africa, where responsibly managed gambling is increasingly delivering development, dignity and opportunity to communities in need. As 2026 unfolds, Matshemhlophe Village in South Africa stands as a powerful example of how betting can do more than provide entertainment. It can help reshape lives.
