Virginia casino project makes it to November ballot
The ONE Casino + Resort project will be put on the November ballot after the Richmond City Court approved the city council’s request to let voters decide on the new casino.
US.- The Richmond Circuit Court has approved Richmond City Council’s petition to put a potential new Virginia casino to a referendum on the November ballot.
The $562.5m ONE Casino + Resort project planned for southern Richmond would include a sportsbook, 250 hotel rooms, a 3,000-seat theatre, 100,000 square feet of gaming space, and 12 bars and restaurants.
Urban One, a minority investor in the MGM National Harbor hotel and casino in Maryland, in partnership with Peninsula Pacific Entertainment and Rosie’s Gaming Emporium won the bid to run the venue, beating five other proposals in January.
Richmond’s Mayor Levar Stoney said he expects the venue to generate an economic boost for the Virginian capital.
He said: “We thank the court for its review and order to place on the November ballot a referendum on the project. This economic development project will bring 1,300 well-paying jobs and millions in much-needed revenue to our city while continuing the revitalization of South Richmond. And as we said from the beginning, the people will have the final say.”
