Virginia Lottery approves Richmond casino referendum
The Virginia Lottery has given its approval to a referendum that would allow voters to decide on casino gaming in Richmond.
US.- The Virginia Lottery has given the go-ahead to a referendum on a casino in the city of Richmond. The city can now petition the Circuit Court to allow a referendum on casino gaming on the ballot on November 2.
Richmond City Council has also approved the Host Community Agreement for ONE Casino + Resort.
Mayor Levar Stoney said: “I congratulate the City Council for approving a resort casino Host Community Agreement that puts Richmonders first.
“Richmond needs both great new jobs for our residents and new revenue to help fund our priorities and keep taxes low for everyone.”
If voters approve the casino, the $562m venue is expected to open in October 2024. It’s expected to create over 1,300 jobs and generate an estimated $172m in new General Fund revenue in its first five years.
