Virginia pushes for casino gaming
A Virginia Representative pre-filed a casino gaming bill, which would pave the way to enact the provisions of a 2019 casino bill.
US.- Representative Barry Knight is advocating for Virginia to finally launch casino gaming in 2020. He pre-filed a bill paving the way to enact the provisions of a 2019 approved legislation.
Back in March, Governor Ralph Northam signed an SB1126, with text identical to Knight’s House Bill 4. It required a Joint Legislative Audit and Review Commission to assess regulatory best practice and the potential impact of gambling.
The commission would submit a report to the Senate Committee on General Laws and Technology, and House Committee on General Laws, on December 1. Then, the Lottery Board would develop casino regulations between January 1 and June 30, 2020.
According to SB1126, Virginia would revisit casino gambling in the next legislative session, which is what HB4 is aimed at.
Virginia casino gaming raises opposition
A new Pamunkey Indian Tribe casino may soon arrive in Norfolk county. However, some residents are questioning the fast-paced vote on the new Virginia casino.
The authorities have scheduled a vote on the casino for today, but there will be a comment period before it.
Councilwoman Andria McClellan raised several questions in a Facebook post about the deal for the new Virgnia casino.
“As has been noted by others, the idea of this casino has been discussed in closed session by the Council over the course of the last year. In total, I believe the amount of time devoted to these discussions among us has been 3-4 hours,” she wrote.
