Tribal casino to open in Connecticut in 2020
The MMCT Ventures project that’s set to be MGM Springfield’s rival is expected to open by 2020, a tribes spokesman said.
US.- The MGM Springfield casino opened on Friday and triggered the Mashantucket Pequot and Mohegan tribes’ comments on when their own project will open. Their East Windsor casino, according to spokesman Andrew Doha, is expected to be ready to operate by spring 2020.
The venue will include a 188,000-square-foot gaming and entertainment facility with 1,800 slot machines, 50 table games and 10 poker tables. It was designed as a response to MGM’s development, which is expected to draw players from Connecticut, as well as from Massachusetts and even New York.
In a statement released a few weeks ago, Mohegan Tribal Council Chairman Kevin Brown said that the East Windsor casino “will create jobs and will provide additional revenue to the state at a time when every dollar is precious,” and added stated: “We are full steam ahead and excited by the tremendous progress we’ve made to date.”
Even as the tribes are already forecasting a potential opening date as they already received approval from the Connecticut Legislature, they are still waiting for the final nod from the US Department of the Interior.
