US tribes to build gaming hall in Martha’s Vineyard
Tribes from Massachusetts and Oklahoma have joined forces to establish a gambling hall on the resort island equipped with 300 slot machines.
US.- The Aquinnah Wampanoags, a Massachusetts tribe, has announced it signed a deal with Global Gaming Solutions to be its partner in a gaming hall project for the resort island of Martha’s Vineyard. The latter is Chickasaw Nation’s (an Oklahoma tribe) hospitality enterprise and will develop the property, set to host 300 electronic machines.
Aquinnah Wampanoag chairwoman Cheryl Andrews-Maltais praised the Chickasaw Nation by branding it as one of the nation’s most financially sound tribes and said its Global Gaming Solutions has helped develop more than thirty casinos.
Despite not providing many details about the planned gaming hall, she promised it would be beneficial for the community as it would “blend” in with the island’s inhabitants.
The only known fact about the development is that it will only include the machines. The tribe already explained there won’t be any casino table games (not card games nor roulette) at the venue.
Despite the Aquinnah Wampanoag chairwoman’s comments, the state and town had brought a legal challenge against the venue. However, the U.S. Supreme Court in January declined to take it up.
