Spelinspektionen says it will make Spelpaus.se “more user-friendly”.

Sweden.- The Swedish gambling regulator Spelinspektionen has announced plans to update the national gaming self-exclusion site Spelpaus.se.

The regulator said it will make the site more user-friendly and that there will be no major changes to how the scheme affects operators.

The makeover comes due to the end of Spelinspektionen’s agreement with its current supplier. It has entered into a new contract with a new partner, Precio Fishbone. It said licensees will check details on the site in the same way as they do currently and that the technical side will not change.

What will be new is the addition of an option to allow users to extend a current self-exclusion. Spelinspektionen said users had been requesting such a feature. Other than that change, the update will put an emphasis on providing clearer information and guidance on how players can find help.

Spelpaus.se launched in January 2019 when Sweden’s latest gambling regulations came into force, opening up the licensed online gaming market. Some 70,000 people have self-excluded through the site.

As for recognition of the service, Spelinspektionen’s latest survey on gambling in Sweden found that in 2021 59 per cent of gamblers were familiar with the register, an increase of only two percentage points compared to the previous year.

Spelinspektionen said: “During the three years that Spelapus.se has been in operation, the Swedish Gaming Inspectorate has received many good views and seen the need for further functions and improvements.”
