Svenska Spel sees rise in net gaming revenue and profit
Online gaming revenue more than compensated for the closure of Sweden’s last land-based casino.
Sweden.- The state-controlled gambling operator Svenska Spel has reported increases in both net gaming revenue and profit during the 2025 financial year, even as it wound down its land-based casino operations with the closure of the last Casino Cosmopol venue in the second quarter.
For the 12 months ending 31 December 2025, net gaming revenue reached SEK7.69bn (€711.5m). That’s a 2 per cent rise compared to the previous year. Operating profit grew 10 ppp to SEK2.54bn, while net profit climbed 11 per cent to SEK1.96bn.
The company’s financial progress came during a year of significant change, as Svenska Spel exited the land-based casino market. The flagship Casino Cosmopol in Stockholm closed in April following the closures of the Sundsvall venue in 2020 and Gothenburg and Malmö followed in February 2024.
Growth in other divisions more than offset the impact of the loss of this segment. The Tur lottery division remained the largest contributor, generating SEK5.26bn in sales, up 2 per cent year-on-year. Continued enthusiasm for Eurojackpot and the launch of Lyckoplatsen supported this growth.
The Sport and Casino segment also rose 2 per cent, reaching revenue of SEK2.12bn, thanks to gains in Oddset sports betting and online casino play, though results were tempered by fewer rounds and jackpots in Stryktipset compared with 2024.
By contrast, revenue from the Vegas gaming machine business declined 15 per cent to SEK310m, impacted by stricter responsible gambling measures and a shift toward online play.
Overall digital sales generated sales of SEK4.87bn, up 8 per cent and now accounting for 63 ppp of all revenue. Retail sales were down 6 per cent at SEK2.53bn, while restaurant and bingo hall sales dropped 15 per cent to SEK310m.
Pre-tax profit rose 6 per cent to SEK2.61bn and net profit by 10 per cent to SEK1.96bn. Svenska Spel proposed a dividend of SEK1.8bn, up from SEK1.6bn the previous year.
President and CEO Anna Johnson reflected: “2025 has been a year marked by investments in growth and a transformation of technology, organisation and culture to strengthen Svenska Spel and create long-term value. It has also been the first full year of our strategic goals: the gaming market’s most satisfied customers, healthy gaming and long-term sustainable growth – with progress in all areas.”
She added: “Revenue is increasing, while both operating profit and operating margin are higher than the previous year. The equity ratio is strengthening, and we are exceeding our financial targets.”
