Rio Hotel and Casino workers ratify four-year contract

The group of more than 60 workers has secured higher wages, improved benefits, and stronger workplace protections.

US.- The International Brotherhood of Teamsters has announced that workers at Rio Hotel and Casino, represented by Teamsters Local 986, have ratified a four-year collective bargaining agreement. The group of 62 employees in Las Vegas has secured better working conditions.

According to the announcement, the agreement was reached after workers, including front desk workers, labourers, warehouse workers, and valet attendants, voted to authorise a strike on November 10. The Teamsters said: “The vote followed nearly two years of stalled negotiations by Dreamscape, the property’s owner.”

The workers secured higher wages, improved benefits, and stronger workplace protections. The union said: “The four-year deal delivers a 15 per cent wage increase, improved vacation policies, and continued coverage under the Teamsters Health and Welfare plan. The contract also includes job protections against technology and an option for workers to enroll into the Teamsters 401(k) plan.”

Tim Vera, president of Local 986, said: “Our members stood strong, and management had no other choice but to deliver. This win belongs to every worker who refused to be ignored, and it proves that when we fight as one, we secure real improvements.”

Tommy Blitsch, director of the Teamsters Convention, Trade Show, and Casino Division, added: “Management dragged out negotiations and our members held them accountable. We don’t tolerate delays and disrespect toward our members. We’re always prepared to take action and win.”

Last May, the Rio Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas unveiled its new baccarat room with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. The opening of the gaming space is part of the resort’s multi-year renovation.

The room is located off the main casino floor. The casino transformation has included the recent openings of Canteen Food Hall, Lapa Lounge and Luckley Tavern & Grill.

In October 2024, the venue announced the completion of the first phase of its multi-year renovation with a 117,000-square-foot renovated gaming space with new carpeting and over 900 new slot machines.
