Pennsylvania grants sports betting licences

The state gaming regulator approved sports betting licences for two operators yesterday.

US.- The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board (PGCB) revealed on Wednesday that it has approved two sports betting licences for the Parx Casino in Bucks County and its Turf Club facility in South Philadelphia, and for Hollywood Casino at Penn National Race Course near Harrisburg.

Board spokesman Doug Harbach said that there are still some regulatory hurdles pending, but most of them are approval of entities that are set to work with the operators. “There are firms that will be partnered with the casinos that will set the lines, there are also some that will operate the systems that will power the sports wagering. Those all have to also be vetted,” said Harbach.

The actual launch of sports betting in the state could take place in the upcoming weeks, as it is estimated that the approvals will take place this month and the market will launch in early November.

There are currently three other operators awaiting the board’s approval for their petitions to offer sports betting: SugarHouse in Philadelphia, Harrah’s in Chester, and The Rivers Casino in Pittsburgh.
