Paddy Power not using UK furlough scheme

Betting and gaming giant continues to pay its 2,300 strong UK workforce out of its own pocket.

UK.- Paddy Power has decided not to use the UK government’s furlough scheme to pay staff despite sending workers home during lockdown measures.

Instead, the bookmaker is still paying most of its 2,300 staff in the UK from its own pocket.

This includes 350 staff from its retail stores, who have been sent home on full pay.

The government scheme announced by Chancellor Rishi Sunak’s allows companies to claim 80 per cent of staff’s wages up to £2,500 per month each for three months.

Many companies have taken advantage of the furlough scheme.

Paddy Power parent company Flutter, which rebranded from Paddy Power Betfair last year, is currently completing a £10billion mega-merger with the Canadian owners of Sky Bet, The Stars Group.
