Ohio sports betting handle increases year-over-year in April
The handle was $807.2m, up 19.7 per cent from April 2024.
US.- Ohio’s sports betting handle was $807.2m in April, up 19.7 per cent year-over-year and down 18.7 per cent from March. According to the Ohio Casino Control Commission, sportsbooks generated $73.7m in revenue, slightly less than in April 2024 ($73.9m). The hold percentage was 9.1 per cent.
FanDuel lead the market with a $271.7m handle and $29.9m in revenue. DraftKings reported a $248.6m and $23.1m, bet365 $77.1m and $6.3m, BetMGM $53.2m and $3.7m and Fanatics Sportsbook $46.3m and $4.6m. Ohio’s 20 per cent tax rate on sports betting operators generated $14.7m.
In the first four months of 2025, sports bettors wagered $3.5bn, a 20.6 per cent increase from the same period in 2024.
Ohio bill proposes to legalise online gambling and ban sweepstakes
Representative Brian Stewart’s House Bill 298 aims to legalise and tax online gambling in the state while banning online sweepstakes games. Under the proposed law, internet gambling would only be permitted through licensed operators, and only casino operators and racing permit holders would be eligible with permitted a licence for one online platform. The Ohio Casino Control Commission (CAC) would be responsible for overseeing all activities, which could go live by March 31, 2026.
