Northern Lights Casino, Saskatchewan, completes first phase of expansion project
The Prince Albert casino opened its renovated gaming floor, expanded smoking room and main entrance.
Canada.- Northern Lights Casino in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, has completed phase one of its expansion project. The gaming floor has been renovated along with the smoking room and main entrance.
The biggest change in Phase 1 was the expansion of the smoking room, which reopened on Friday after the gaming floor and main entrance reopened the previous day. The former room was demolished inside the casino and replaced with a larger space featuring additional gaming machines and improved ventilation.
Acting General Manager Denzel Smith said patrons had reacted positively to the change so far. “They feel like they’re in Vegas. Like it’s almost like a whole other world here at Northern Lights Casino,” he said.
“We had 223 machines, and now we’re up to 275 machines in our new smoke room,” Smith said. The area also received a new air-handling unit and a larger ventilation system. Phase 2 will focus on further renovations to the gaming floor and another expansion of the new smoking room. The plans also include a new bar and deli combination in the area previously used for live games.
The project was announced in 2024, with construction beginning in October. Daily operations continued throughout the work. No timeline has been announced for the completion of Phase 2 or the start of the third and final phase. Northern Lights Casino opened in 1996, while its previous major renovation took place in 2011.
