North Carolina sports betting handle increases year-over-year in May

The sports betting handle was $562.2m, up 7 per cent from May 2024.

US.- North Carolina’s eight interactive sports wagering operators took a combined handle of $562.2m in April. The figure was up by 7 per cent year-over-year and down 2.4 per cent from April’s $576.2m.

According to the North Carolina State Lottery Commission, players won $492.9m. Gross wagering revenue totalled $65,2, up 40 per cent from April and up 3.4 per cent year-over-year. The estimated tax proceeds for the month will be $11.7m, up 39.4 per cent from April’s $8.4m.

Mobile sports wagering launched in North Carolina on March 11, 2024. In the first 12 months, bettors wagered $6.1bn in paid wagers and almost $500m in free or promotional bets. A budget proposal recently presented in the North Carolina Senate includes a provision to double the sports betting tax rate in the state.
