North Carolina sports betting handle decreases in April

US.- The North Carolina State Lottery Commission has released its sports wagering revenue report for April. The eight interactive sports wagering operators licensed in the state took a combined handle of $576.2m, down 16 per cent from March’s $685m.
Players won $525.3m and gross wagering revenue totalled $46.8m, up 22 per cent from March ($38.1m). With an 18 per cent tax rate, the estimated tax proceeds for the month will be $8.4m.
Mobile sports wagering launched in North Carolina on March 11, 2024. A budget proposal presented in the North Carolina Senate includes a provision to double the sports betting tax rate to 36 per cent. The Appropriations/Base Budget, Finance, and the Pensions and Retirement and Ageing committees approved the budget on Tuesday. The Senate is expected to finalise its work on the $32bn to $33bn package by Thursday and send it to the House for amendments. If approved, the proposal would take effect on October 1.
