New York online sports betting handle reaches $1.5bn in October
New York’s handle reached its highest total in six months.
US.- New York’s online sports betting handle was $1.5bn in October, up 22.8 per cent from September, according to the New York State Gaming Commission. It’s the best monthly performance in six months.
Gross gaming revenue from mobile sports wagering was $145.7m, up from $143.3m in September. Tax owed to the state was approximately $74.3m – New York has a 51 per cent levy on revenue from mobile wagering.
FanDuel remained the most popular sportsbook in New York, taking in $609.1m in bets and making $76.4m in revenue. In second place was DraftKings, which took $534.6m in bets and generated $41.1m in revenue. Caesars Sportsbook recorded $195.2m in bets and $14.9m in revenue.
New York State has surpassed $500m in tax revenue from mobile sports betting. Governor Kathy Hochul said from when the market launched in January up to October 30, the state had collected $542m. Adding $200m in licensing fees, the state received more than $740m from mobile sports betting.
New York Lottery launches training on underage gambling prevention
The New York Lottery has announced the launch of new training on underage gambling prevention training. The training programme for retailers will reinforce the importance of age verification at stores. Subjects will include how to ask customers for identification for the purchase of a lottery ticket and how to spot fake IDs.
Retailers will have access to the training via the Lottery’s retailer portal and its internal learning management systems. New York Lottery management, marketing representatives and call centre staff will also participate in the programme.
