Monaco’s casinos seek to protect guest privacy with new photography ban
Photographing guests without consent at casinos in Monte Carlo will be explicitly prohibited by law.
Monaco.- The upmarket casinos in Monaco have always been protective of their wealthy clientele. Now new legislation will help them ensure further privacy for celebrities and VIPs.
Monte-Carlo Société des Bains de Mer, which operates the land-based casinos in the tiny principality, has placed signs at venues to tell people not to film or photograph other guests without permision. The new rules were introduced through changes to Monaco’s Penal Code, which now bans unauthorised recording or dissemination of images under articles 308-2, 308-3, and 308-4.
“Please do not film or photograph hotels and casinos guests. Any offender is subject to sanctions,” the signs read. The new legislation extends to hotels as well as casinos in Monte Carlo, and Punishments may include fines and potential criminal charges.
The legislation is intended to bolster Monaco’s reputation as a destination that provides discretion for celebrities and high-profile business leaders. Monaco has four casinos all located in Monte Carlo. The most famous is the landmark Casino de Monte-Carlo. There’s also Sun Casino, Monaco Bay Resort Casino and the Casino at the Cafe de Paris.
