Mississippi sports betting handle rises in August

The handle increased 46 per cent from July.

US.- The Mississippi Gaming Commission (MGC) has reported that the sports betting handle totalled $21.9m in August, up 46 per cent from July 2025. Taxable revenue was $3.8m.

The coastal region represented more than half of the handle at $14.2m, while the Central region generated $5.2m and the Northern region $2.5m.

In the Coastal region, baseball led the market with $4m in bets, followed by football with $3.9m and parlay cards with $2.4m. Taxable revenue totalled $2.4m.

In the Central region, parlay cards led the market with $2.3m, while baseball generated $1.5m and football $891,173. Taxable revenue was $1m. In the Northern region, parlay cards generated $1m in bets, football $514,586 and baseball $496,463. Taxes totalled $430,023.

Sam’s Town Hotel and Gaming Hall in Mississippi to close

Sam’s Town Hotel and Gaming Hall in Tunica, Mississippi, will permanently close on November 9 after more than 30 years. Its hotel will close on November 2.

In a statement to The Commercial Appeal, operator Boyd Gaming said the decision was a result of market conditions. The resort opened in 1994 as the third casino from Boyd Gaming branded as a Sam’s Town. It’s the largest casino in Tunica. Renovations in 1996 included new convention facilities and 350 new hotel rooms expanding the total to 860.
