Mississippi casino revenue decreases year-over-year in February
Revenue in the state totalled $189.5m in the second month of the year.
US.- The Mississippi Gaming Commission (MGC) has reported that casinos in the state generated $189.5m in revenue in February. That’s down 8.3 per cent from February 2024 but 2.2 per cent ahead of January. Most revenue was generated by slot machines ($159.4m). Table games generated $25.4m.
The regulator breaks revenue down across three regions: Central, Coastal, and Northern. Coastal casinos generated the highest gaming revenue of the month with $122.5m. That was down 6.8 per cent from the same month in 2024. In the Northern region, revenue was $47.3m, a 14 per cent decline year-over-year. The Central region generated $32.4m, down 17.9 per cent from February 2024.
As for retail sports betting, the MGC reported a handle of $30.5m, down 2.6 per cent compared to February 2024 ($31.3m). In the Coastal Region, players wagered $20.6m: $9.5m on basketball and $4.8m on football. Players in the Central Region bet $6.5m. Basketball accounted for $2.9m and football $2.8m. In the Northern Region, players bet $3.5m. Retail sports betting generated close to $1.3m in taxable revenue, down 43 per cent year-on-year.
In February, a bill that would raise the tax rate on casinos in Mississippi died on calendar. HB 1881 would have increased casino tax from 12 to 16 per cent.
