Key Takeaways

U.S.- Maverick Gaming owner Eric Persson has announced plans to personally acquire eight Washington casinos that had looked set to close, aiming to preserve around 850 jobs in the process. Persson told KIRO Newsradio he expects the deal to close in about three weeks. Employees will be transferred to the new company, and the properties will stay open.

The move follows WARN notices filed last week with the Washington Employment Security Department. The eight casinos has been expected to close on November 30.

The casinos involved are:

  • Great American Casino in Everett
  • Chip’s Casino, Macau Casino and Palace Casino in Lakewood
  • All Star Casino in Silverdale
  • Casino Caribbean in Yakima
  • Crazy Moose Casino in Pasco
  • Coyote Bobs Casino in Kennewick

Maverick, a subsidiary of RunItOneTime LLC, has been operating under Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection since July 2025. At the time of the filing, it reported assets and liabilities between US$ 100 m and US$ 500 m. The filing followed a debt restructuring in 2024. Five properties closed since April: the Dragon Tiger Casino in Mountlake Terrace, Palace Casino in Lakewood, Silver Dollar in Renton and Roman Casino in Seattle.

The company has linked its challenges to the Washington Gaming Commission ending a centralised surveillance petition for cardrooms, which it said limited its ability to compete with larger venues.

Persson said the announced employment terminations were part of the change between the old and new companies rather than the result of the casinos shutting down: “The employees are being terminated as it relates to the old company and being rehired by the new company, but the properties themselves will stay open.”

Persson said he is working with regulators to complete the transaction and does not currently expect anything to prevent the deal from moving forward.
