U.S.- Maverick Washington LLC will close eight casinos in Washington state on November 30, eliminating 850 jobs. The company has notified the state’s Employment Security Department of the planned closures.

Human Resources Director Christine Wisniewski noted that ongoing bankruptcy proceedings could result in a change of ownership or operator, which could allow a site or sites to remain open.

Maverick Gaming, which is based in Kirkland, has been operating under Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection since July 2025. At the time of the filing, it reported assets and liabilities between US$ 100 m and US$ 500 m. The filing followed a debt restructuring in 2024.

Five properties closed since April: the Dragon Tiger Casino in Mountlake Terrace, Palace Casino in Lakewood, Silver Dollar in Renton and Roman Casino in Seattle.

The company has linked its challenges to the Washington Gaming Commission ending a centralised surveillance petition for cardrooms, which it said limited its ability to compete with larger venues.

“The lack of centralised and advanced surveillance technology, in contrast to what is available in larger establishments, has further hindered our ability to compete effectively,” it said.

Maverick Gaming currently operates 27 properties across Washington, Nevada and Colorado, with approximately 1,800 slot machines, 350 table games, 1,020 hotel rooms and 30 restaurants. The company reported three rounds of layoffs during the summer, affecting 188 positions at locations in SeaTac, Bothell and Mountlake Terrace.
