Massachusetts Gaming Commission reports Winter Olympic Games betting figures

The event generated a gross handle of more than $23.8m across 13 sports.

US.- The Massachusetts Gaming Commission (MGC) has reported that wagers on February’s Winter Olympic Games in Milan-Cortina, Italy, generated a gross handle of more than $23.8m across 13 sports. Players placed over 800,000 wagers on Winter Olympics events.

According to the report, the men’s and women’s ice hockey tournaments led the market with a combined 731,501 wagers, 91 per cent of all Winter Olympics bets placed in the state. Those bets totalled over $22.2m, roughly 93 per cent of the total Winter Olympics gross handle.

Curling followed with 43,244 wagers and a gross handle of $1.3m. Alpine skiing generated a gross handle of $66,830 across 6,065 bets, while speed skating attracted 5,476 wagers for a $78,035 handle.

Ski Mountaineering, making its Winter Olympics debut, saw 782 bets placed for a gross handle of $3,255.61, the lowest of any sport. Freestyle Skiing ($2,986.66) and Skeleton ($4,608.83) also saw modest totals.

For fiscal year 2025, the third year of sports wagering in the Commonwealth between July 1, 2024, and June 30, 2025, nearly $755m was generated in gross gaming revenue (GGR) from 1.83m active accounts. Tax revenue was $150.7m, along with $204,400 in intercepts from the Department of Revenue and child support programmes.
