Florida Governor appoints five members to the Florida Gaming Control Commission
Julie Brown has been named chair of the state’s gaming regulatory body.
US.- Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has announced the appointment of Julie Brown as chair of the Florida Gaming Control Commission (FGCC) and named four additional members to the state’s regulatory body.
The appointments, which remain subject to confirmation by the Florida Senate, include the naming of Peter Cuderman and William Spicola as new commissioners. Furthermore, John Michael D’Aquila and Tina Repp have been reappointed to their roles within the organisation.
Brown, who currently serves as the vice chair of the FGCC, previously held the position of secretary for the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation. Cuderman is the founding partner of Fidelis Fund and formerly served as director of legislative and intergovernmental affairs for the Governor of Florida. Spicola is an attorney at Komisar Spicola, P.A., while D’Aquila is a certified public accountant and owner of D’Aquila Advisors. Repp, a healthcare fraud investigator for Qlarant, formerly served as a special agent for the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
The regulator also recently appointed Alana Zimmer as executive director. Zimmer, who most recently led the Kansas City Automotive Museum, served as a commissioner with the Kansas Lottery between 2016 and 2019.
FGCC seizes more than 230 illegal gambling machines
In a separate development, the FGCC has sseized 231 illegal gambling machines and over $157,000 in illegal gambling proceeds in Lake County. The operation, codenamed Calvin Coolidge, involved the execution of search warrants at three locations in Umatilla and Leesburg.
At the House of Treasure, in Umatilla, the FGCC and Lake County Sheriff’s Office seized 56 illegal gambling machines, including slot machines and fish tables, and $75,619. Three Notices to Appear were issued for possession of slot machines and keeping a gambling house.
