Iowa lawmakers to consider iGaming bill
A bill to legalise online and mobile gaming was introduced in the Senate and will be assessed by state lawmakers.
US.- The gaming industry continues to evolve and, particularly in the US, it is expanding as sports betting and iGaming legislation continues to be discussed nationwide. That’s exactly Iowa’s case, as a bill has been introduced in the Senate in order to legalise both online and mobile gaming.
Senator Roby Smith filed Senate Study Bill 1168, which would open the market for the iGaming segment and fantasy sports contests. Should it pass, sports betting would also be allowed on both professional and collegiate sporting events, within different gambling facilities, including the state’s 19 casinos and its racetracks.
Under SB1168, all venues would need to apply for a licence to offer online and mobile wagering, but no licensing fees value has been determined yet, nor how long would they last for. All specifics and details will be later discussed by the General Assembly.
2019 will probably be a year in which sports betting finally blooms in the US after the Supreme Court struck PASPA down last year. After most states decided to wait and study the segment, this session they will most likely take action.
