Iowa casinos experience slight increase in revenue

The casinos increased their revenues despite a slight decrease in attendance numbers.

US.- The Iowa Gaming Association released on Wednesday the official figures that show that the 19 casinos licensed in the state took in almost US$1.4 billion for the twelve months that ended June 30th.

The increase during the fiscal 2017/2018 represents less than one per cent increase of more than US$10.9 million in gross adjusted revenue over the previous year. Nevertheless, it is still below the record of US$1.42 billion registered in fiscal 2012. “We’re stable, we’re strong and we’re mature,” said Wes Ehrecke of the Iowa Gaming Association.

The good results come in despite a decrease in the number of visitors, as it dropped from 21.8 million in the last fiscal year to 20.7 million this year. According to the official numbers, the casino with the biggest increase in revenues was Prairie Meadows Racetrack and Casino in Altoona, which totalled US$201 million, to a 5.5 per cent increase. Hard Rock Casino in Sioux City also saw a five per cent increase to approximately US$80.9 million.
